Arthur is a championship footie player. Eames is a troubled kid who can take a beating and give one. He had that desire funneled into ruby. Until he had only football to turn his need for action towards. Together they're trouble, and not just because of the growing crush between them.
This is a story that will start at a prestigious boarding school and move on to finding themselves on the same professional soccer team.

A move and meeting
Soccer. Ugh, just thinking of it in those terms bugs the hell out of him, but per his father's orders - so much more ugh on his part - he is there for practice and try outs that they're having for the team.
He's bigger than most of the traditional footie players there, bulked up for rugby, and he knows this is going to be ugly.
"Fucking footie shite," he sighs. "Soccer," he mutters as well, twisting the word in a bad fake American accent. "I'm going to break somebody."

If that was true, then Arthur expected that perhaps lacrosse or football would be more up his alley not... here, on his field.
"They usually frown upon breaking someone in soccer," he says, keeping his eyes on the coach and not his future potential teammate. He'd been on the team the last two years and didn't need to re-try. He, along with the rest of the team left, and was here to help run through tryouts with the potential newbies.

Arthur. Captain of the JV team. Star of the team and King of the school. He's had his eyes on him since he got there.
"They tell me you need a stopper though. Coach things I'd be good for it."
He damn well has the build for it, in ways no other team likely has.

And Eames? Yeah, he could be a distraction.
He quickly glances the other guy over before tilting his head. He couldn't deny though that they needed a stopper and Eames had the build for it. More than any other team they would face would have. "You have the look of one," he admits. "But can you do it without breaking someone," he asks dryly.
If one knew how to look there might be a hint of amusement in his eyes. "After all, this isn't hockey or football."

He moves to stand half in front of Arthur, facing him with that same smile as he backs towards the pitch.
"Come on then. Let me show you how good I can be without breaking someone."
He crooks a finger at Arthur, knowing he's pushing buttons, just to see what happens.

Maybe then Arthur wouldn’t find him so distracting.
He narrows a look at him and his teasing then glances toward their coach who was giving instruction to another set of new players. The assistant coach however caught his eye and gave him a nod.
“Let’s see what you’ve got then,” he said, following him out onto the pitch, grabbing a practice ball and giving them space away from others.

He's big, and he knows that, but he's fast as well. It's what's done him so well at his last school, after all.

Twenty minutes later, a whistle blew from the sidelines causing everyone to come to a stop and look at the coach who strode toward them.
"We have some work to do and you have to officially try out but welcome to the team," he says to Eames.
Even Arthur had to admit that he was already a force to be reckoned with and given more practice and instruction? They'll be one of the top teams in the state.

So he runs the pitch, throwing himself into everything and doing the best he can. So when the whistle blows he's pouring sweat and grinning like a mad man.
"Thanks! I think I can find a way to love this sport," he admits, even if it's not as physical as rugby it's still exciting and he found he enjoyed himself.
He looks to Arthur. "Think I'll do alright?"

"You'll do," he says with a little smirk. Truth was, he'd do more than alright. There was, admittedly, a small part of him worried that Eames would come after the Captain position next year but he wasn't going to become too hung up on that just yet.
They'd have to see how the year went and if Eames even stayed past the year.
"He'll more than 'just do'," Coach Abernathy said with a chuckle, clasping Eames on the shoulder. "What are we all standing around for, we have tryouts to do. Let's move it," he says, blowing his whistle and walking off to officially start tryouts.
